FamilyWagon Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I spoke to a petrolhead friend of mine about the lacquer peeling off my alloys and he suggested the following: Removing the wheel(s)Carefully painting Nitro Mors over the wheelRemove the paint/lacquer with wire woolRinse, clean & dry thoroughlyRespray with bright silver paintReapply lacquer Has anyone done this or something similar? Just to clarify, the wheels have not been damaged by kerbing etc it is just the rubbish lacquer bubbling off. Cheers, Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I don't think I am brave enough to try that. I just put up with nasty corroded alloys. Spoke to a place last week in Byfleet - about 3 days to do all 5 alloys at around Quote
big_kev Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Yep alloys look nice when new.........however They tarnish easily...aliminium does not get on with air They leak air........don't argue about this they do. They break easily when kerbed..........might just be my driving. However I wouldn't swap mine for steels & trims..........at least you can clean them Quote
darkginger Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I know this is abit late, but I'm in the same situation, and I've been reading this thread regarding allow wheel repair. I was going to strip of the lacquer, probably user nitro mor, but I'm going to mask of the spoke areas and concentrate on the flat part of the spokes. When the lacquer was stripped off, I was going to polish the alloys using a polishing kit. (you can get them off ebay with appropriate waxs to bring the alloy to a shiny finish) I've just done this with my motorcycle so figured that is was a no brainer to do the same on the galaxy wheels. onced polished, then I might apply a clear lacquer to protect. I just figured if that if I polish the existing alloy it may look more natural, and although it can a a little time consuming there shouldn't be much in it, if where going to paint them.:) Quote
